Threat of downpours fails to deter devotees as T in the Park sells out

ALTHOUGH the sun shone on the first full day of T in the Park yesterday, music fans were warned the dry weather would not last.

Festival organisers confirmed the last few tickets had been sold, meaning a capacity 85,000 people would be present each day for the event at Balado, near Kinross. Snow Patrol headlined last night, with the Stone Roses and Kasabian playing today and tomorrow respectively.

Heavy rain has already fallen in central Scotland throughout the week and more is expected for the weekend, making for muddy conditions.

Forecaster Aisling Creevey urged fans to pack their waterproofs as there was potential for “some torrential downpours” today.

She said: “Sunday isn’t looking great, but there will be a few dry spells.

It will also turn cooler, with northern winds making the area unseasonably cool.”

Meanwhile, a teenager was banned from T in the Park yesterday after he was allegedly caught dealing drugs at the festival before the first band had even come on stage.

Thomas Baker, 18, from Liverpool, was arrested in connection with the supply of ecstasy at the music festival within hours of the doors to the venue opening on Thursday.

He appeared at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday to face an allegation of dealing ecstasy and was bailed, with a condition banning him from the festival.

Tayside Police Superintendent Rick Dunkerley, T in the Park’s event commander, warned illegal behaviour would not be tolerated.
