THE Proclaimers will be the first Scottish act to perform at The Hydro arena in Glasgow when it opens later this year.

The Leith twins, who first found fame in the 1980s with hits like I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), Letter From America and Sunshine on Leith, will perform at the brand new Clydeside venue on October 12.

They will be joined on the night by support acts Glasvegas and Roddy Hart and The Lonesome Fire.

Tickets for the show go on pre-sale to those who have registered with The Hydro tomorrow at 9am and on general sale on Friday at 9am.

The Proclaimers released their ninth studio album, Like Comedy, last year and a 30-track Very Best Of – 25 Years 1987 to 2012 will be available this summer.

Their songs recently inspired the stage musical, Sunshine On Leith, which is being adapted for the screen by Dexter Fletcher, starring Peter Mullen and Jane Horrocks.

The duo are set to play shows in North America this year, as well as several UK festivals, including T in the Park.

Craig and Charlie Reid, who celebrate their 51st birthday today, said: “We are very honoured to be asked to play as part of The Hydro’s opening season. The Hydro will be a fantastic asset for live music in Glasgow and Scotland and we look forward to a great and special evening.”
