T in the Park review: Twin Atlantic

GLASGOW band Twin Atlantic came on stage to the ironic strains of ‘Singing in the Rain’, a nod, perhaps, to yesterday’s near-constant downpours.

Leading his band in a rousing rendition of last year’s single ‘Edit Me’, frontman Sam McTrusty can barely keep the smile off his face.

And he’s got good reason to. This time last year, Twin Atlantic were playing the NME stage, seen as the ‘new Biffy Clyro’. An impressive set in last summer’s sunshine had many wondering if the band would return on a higher billing in following years, but not many will have predicted a return to T in the Park, to the Main Stage, just a year later. Guitarist Barry McKenna traded licks with McTrusty, as bassist Ross McNae and drummer Craig Kneale provide a thunderous accompanying rhythm section to Twin Atlantic’s anthemic and uplifting catalogue of songs.

Since releasing debut album Free, joining their two EPs Vivarium and A Guidance From Colour, the band have enjoyed an almost meteoric rise to the top, with support slots for bands such as Blink 182 and Pearl Jam doing wonders for their fan base.

A breathless performance showcased exactly why the band have been invited back to T in the Park, and justified their Main Stage billing. On today’s performance, Twin Atlantic are still capable - and seeking - further accomplishments.
