MySpace helped me overcome stroke, says Collins

EDWYN Collins has thanked MySpace for helping him make an amazing recovery from serious brain injuries.

In February 2005, the former Orange Juice frontman suffered two cerebral haemorrhages, which left him fighting for his life and unable to talk.

Now the Edinburgh-born singer-songwriter - whose 1994 track A Girl Like You was a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic - is releasing a new album and single.

Collins has revealed that an internet networking site has played a significant part in his journey back to health.

"I am getting there slowly and am becoming more confident all the time," he said.

"MySpace has been really good for me."

His wife Grace said: "It has been really important, because although Edwyn could read and write, his memory of reading and writing had gone. So at first he was on there wanting to reply to messages and e-mails, and he used to dictate to me, but now he is on there typing away, relearning how to construct the words."

Collins' sixth solo album, Home Again, was recorded prior to his sudden serious illness, but it remained unmixed until he felt up to the task of going into his studio.

The single, 'You'll Never Know', is released on September 10. Home Again is released on September 17.
