Local Buzz: Caro Bridges | Michael MacFarlane

Electric Circus’ regular Live Lounge evening returns for it’s second July outing, featuring two of Edinburgh’s finest up-and-coming contemporary folk talents.

Caro Bridges

Caro Bridges’ delightfully upbeat, jazz-inspired folk is winning her lots of friends and followers across the city,

“My major influences are hard to pin down but run along the lines of the likes of Regina Spektor, Laura Marling and Joni Mitchell, plus all the great local musicians I play with and see regularly,” she says.

Usually found accompanied by her band, The River, on this occasion the Edinburgh-based lass will be on her lonesome, playing a solo gig. The group recently hand-printed and self-released their debut EP 100 Years From Now, and f you’re lucky, she might still have some copies left on the night.

And just in case all that cheery optimism is too much for you, then miserablist Michael MacFarlane will also be present at the Market Street venue to cast a wryly melancholic shadow over proceedings.

Playing the yin to Bridge’s yang, the bitter balladeer is a relative newcomer to Edinburgh’s acoustic scene, having only really started playing live seriously in the last year or so. On the occasions Local Buzz has seen him, he’s always made a memorable impression on the audience.

Others are starting to take notice too, and as a result he’s picked up some profile-raising supporting slots with Withered Hand and anti-folk legend Lach in recent months.

Expect impressive finger-picking and depressingly amusing songs about getting dumped.
