CALL Broken Records anything you want, just don’t call them Arcade Fire-alikes.

“You can’t deny that it’s good to be compared to one of the biggest bands in the world, but it’s lazy journalism at the same time,” says bandmember David Smith. “Nowadays, if anyone gets on stage with seven people and there happens to be a violin up there, the first thing music journalists say is, ‘Oh, you sound just like Arcade Fire’.”

Talked up in some circles as a potential wildcard for the Mercury Music Prize a couple of years ago, this local band are used to packing out venues like the Queen’s Hall - so tickets will be like gold dust for this weekend’s intimate gig at the Wee Red Bar, where they will be road-testing new material alongside old favourites.

Support on the night comes from Plastic Animals, a hotly-tipped young trio from the Capital who are well worth heading along early for.

Ded Rabbit

A BAND of brothers, Ded Rabbit are one of the most promising young bands in the Capital right now.

With musical influences as diverse as their music, they have absorbed everything from The Beatles and Hendrix to Queens of the Stone Age and threw in some early house and electronic pioneers like The Chemical Brothers and Prodigy for good measure.

Reviews of debut EP Run were more than favourable and tomorrow, at Henry’s Cellar Bar, the four-piece unleash newbie Ice Cream.

Ded Rabbit will be joined on stage by special guests.
