Lifetime music award for Edwyn Collins
SCOTTISH musician Edwyn Collins, who almost died from a brain haemorrhage seven years ago, was honoured last night for his contribution to the music industry.
The former Orange Juice frontman was celebrated at the Association of Independent Music Awards in London for his 30-plus years of music-making.
Another honorary prize – the pioneer award – went to Daniel Miller, founder of Mute Records, which propelled acts such as Depeche Mode and Moby, among many others, to fame.
In 2005, Collins suffered a stroke and two haemorrhages then later contracted MRSA. The 53-year-old, whose hits include A Girl Like You, was left unable to walk, talk or read as a result.
But he has bounced back to record again, as well as working as a producer and publishing a book of his illustrations of British birds.
