HUNDREDS gathered yesterday to bid farewell to Michael Marra, one of Scotland’s most acclaimed singer-songwriters.
Marra, who had shared the stage with artists ranging from Van Morrison to the Proclaimers, died last Tuesday in the city’s Ninewells Hospital, aged 60, after a long battle against cancer.
Ricky Ross, the lead singer of Deacon Blue, and Rab Noakes, the singer-songwriter, were among the mourners who joined family and friends at the crematorium in Dundee where a recording of one of Marra’s best known compositions, All Will Be Well, was played.
Members of his family paid their tributes to the musician, who was dubbed the Bard of Dundee and played with a number of bands, including Hen’s Teeth and Skeets Boliver, before embarking on a solo career.
