PLENTY of stargazing, Euro 2012 action and prodigious electro-pop feature in this week’s events guide

Tue 5 Jun: Glasgow Science Festival is launched tomorrow, and happens to coincide with a once-in-a-lifetime astrological event - the Transit of Venus, the broadcast of which the festival will host through the night.

Glasgow Sculpture Studios (Port Dundas), Dawson Road, 9pm, free

Wed 6 Jun: A Play, A Pie and a Pint’s latest offering sees BAFTA-winning Peter McDougall showcase his latest work, The Brothers’ Keeper. A poignant and affectionate examination of relationships told with the playwrights’ usual lyrical sophistry, it promises to be a worthy afternoon of theatre.

Oran Mor, Byres Road, £8-£12.50

Thu 7 Jun: Miaoux Miaoux is the moniker of Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Julian Corrie, whose heady mix of indie and electronic music (think Caribou, Chemikal Underground, etc) has won plenty of plaudits from anyone with a decent pair of lugs. Corrie launches his debut album at Mono with support from Conquering Animal Sound, Mitchell Museum and Auntie Flo.

Mono, 7.30pm, £TBC

Fri 8 Jun: Euro 2012 kicks off proper this Friday with co-hosts Poland playing previous tournament winners Greece, with Russia and the Czech Republic facing off later on in the day. For those not predisposed to football - sorry, you’re stuck with it for the rest of the month.

Poland vs Greece, 5pm, BBC One; Russia vs Czech Republic, 7.45pm, ITV

Sat 9 Jun: The Bearsden and Milngavie Highland Games promises a glut of great family activities, mixing traditional activities you’d expect - Highland dancing, pipe bands, caber tossing, etc - with some quirkier pursuits. Jellympics, anyone?

West of Scotland Rugby Ground, Glasgow Road, Milngavie, free
