Gig review: Vukovi, T in the Park
IT’S hard to tell whether the large crowd gathered in the T Break tent are there for experimental rockers Vukovi, or simply to shelter from the rain.
Vukovi - T Break Stage
Rating: ***
Describing themselves as a ‘fight between Skunk Anansie and Rage Against the Machine,’ the four piece have garnered a lot of attention in recent months. First recording ‘Get Hot and Feel The Butterflies’ was played on Radio 1 a mere 8 weeks after the band had formed, and had released two EPs by the end of 2011. Touted by many as the next big thing, the quartet are known for their energetic live shows, and impressive musicianship.
It’s a pity, then, that the acoustics weren’t kind to the band to begin with, as Janine Shilstone’s emotive vocals got lost in a muddy low end, with Hamish Reilly’s frenetic guitar failing to cut through the mix at times.
That said, Vukovi still put on a good show against the odds, helped by the sound settling down after a short while, with Target Practice a particular highlight.
