Full line-up for Edinburgh Hogmanay revealed

editorial image

THE full line-up for one of the world’s most famous street parties has been revealed, with The Vaccines and DJ Mark Ronson among the headline acts at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay event.

Organisers said a “world-class” list of performers would help revellers bring in the new year in the capital.

Up to 80,000 partygoers are expected to gather to see performances from Primal Scream, electro-pop band Friendly Fires and Bombay Bicycle Club.

Primal Scream will headline the Concert In The Gardens, Ronson will be on the East End DJ stage, Friendly Fires will play on the West End stage and Cuban Brothers will be at the Mound.

The Vaccines will headline the Waverley Stage, with Scottish band Kassidy supporting.

Other acts taking to the seven music stages include X Factor’s Jade Richards, Frisky and Mannish as well as Radio 1 DJs Jaymo & Andy George.

This year’s event will also see sites across the Scottish capital turned into playgrounds on January 1.

Revellers are invited to take part in two teams - Uppies and Doonies - to compete in street games at St Giles Cathedral, the National Museum of Scotland, the Hub or Dancebase.

Pete Irvine, director of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, said: “The eyes of the world will be on Edinburgh, the home of Hogmanay, as we launch 2012 - the year of the London Olympics - and we are delighted to have such a fantastic line-up for the Street Party, the best we’ve had in 19 years.”

There will also be a Celtic world stage for the first time, where Scottish bands Peatbog Faeries and Capercaillie will play.

The Street Party, Keilidh and Concert In The Gardens are part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Festival programme, which runs for three days from Friday December 30 until Sunday January 1.

There will be two fireworks displays from either end of Princes Street to welcome in the new year.

The programme of events includes a torchlight procession and the Loony Dook, in which revellers brave the cold waters of the Forth on New Year’s Day.

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: “Edinburgh is the home of Hogmanay, it is the best place in the world to see in the bells.

“This year’s fantastic programme can only reinforce that global reputation.”

No Doubt our tourists will love it at our expense, while the natives stay at home, being wiser as the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay event, is well by it's sell by date.

The whole "traditional" street party thing is as fake as the 'failte' signs at Edinburgh airport. I'll need to remember to book up early this year.
