Annie Lennox given doctorate by Berklee college
SINGER Annie Lennox is to be given an honorary doctorate from a leading music school in America.
The former Eurythmics frontwoman has been given the award from the world’s largest independent college of contemporary music – Berklee College, in Boston, Massachusetts.
She and legendary songwriter Carole King and king of country Willie Nelson will receive the honour from president Roger H. Brown at the Agganis Arena at Boston University in May.
The Aberdeen-born singer will address students and staff at the college.
A Berklee spokeswoman said: “This year’s honorary doctorate recipients are recognised for their achievements and influence in music, and for their enduring contributions to American and international culture.”
Past recipients of the awards include soul queen Aretha Franklin music icon David Bowie. As is Berklee’s tradition, students will pay tribute to the recipients by performing their music.
