Album review: Scott Hamilton and Danny Moss
SCOTT HAMILTON & DANNY MOSS Mainstream Giants Of Jazz 2007 * * * * * Robinwood Productions 0026, £12.72
Saxophonist Danny Moss's final Edinburgh Jazz Festival gig before his death last year saw him paired with a fellow tenor titan, American Scott Hamilton. This CD, recorded a month after their Edinburgh summit, is characterised by the same magic: these two players were perfectly matched – both have a bluesy, forthright style – and their duets here are electric. There's excellent accompaniment from a rhythm section that includes Dave Cliff (guitar) and John Pearce (piano).
