GLASGOW funny-man Kevin Bridges, has donated money from a turbulent Derry gig to Irish charity, Children In Crossfire.
Fans of Kevin Bridges described the concert as “disgraceful” and the “worst night ever”, after one woman’s persistent heckling forced the entertainer to walk off stage at the Millennium Forum in Derry, Northern Ireland.
The exact amount donated by the 28 year-old Scottish comedian has not been revealed, but the gesture was welcomed by charity Director and Founder, Richard Moore.
“This is a wonderful gesture by Kevin Bridges and everyone associated with Children in Crossfire are extremely grateful,” said Mr. Moore.
“These funds will go towards improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable children who suffer from not having access to food, proper medicine or clean water in Tanzania and Ethiopia.
After being contacted by the venue manager about the donation, Moore was taken aback:
“I couldn’t believe it. It was such a wonderful gesture and will give a great boost to our work and an enormous sense of encouragement to our partners overseas.”
Children in Crossfire is an Irish charity founded in 1996, that looks to protect children’s rights across the world.
Many of those who attended Friday’s concert criticised both Bridges and staff at the Millennium Forum for the way in which the incident was handled.
It is believed that the woman at the centre of the incident was forced to delete her Facebook profile on Monday because the backlash.
Millennium Forum, Chief Executive, David McLaughlin, described what happened as “disappointing”.
“We appreciate patrons’ respect for each other and the artist on stage and it was disappointing that one member of the audience did not extend this courtesy on Friday evening. We take all feedback on board and work hard to ensure all our patrons and performers enjoy their experience at our venue,” he said.
“Kevin Bridges continues his sell-out gigs to much positive feedback from Derry audiences.”
Bridges will take to the stage in Derry for a final time on Tuesday evening.
