800 homes to be built

A CONTRACT worth £80 million to build 800 new homes has been put out to tender by the city council.

The development in the Pennywell and Muirhouse area means up to £170m of investment in the regeneration of the Gracemount, North Sighthill, Pennywell and Muirhouse, Leith Fort and Greendykes areas of the city. At least half of the homes will be affordable, with the remainder available for sale and rent in the private sector.

Construction is due to start in 2013, with the new homes being ready to be moved into by 2014.

Mark Turley, director of the Services for Communities department, said: “This is an exciting time for the people in Pennywell.”
