Video: Time-lapse of Edinburgh in winter

Waiting for Video...

AN EDINBURGH-based lecturer who has had past works featured at the Cannes Film Festival has unveiled a stunning new time-lapse video of Edinburgh in winter.

The short film, by Media Practice lecturer Walid Salhab, features iconic landmarks around the city including McEwan Hall, Arthur’s Seat and Leith Docks and is titled ‘Kinetic II’, a follow-up to his internationally-successful film ‘Kinetic’.

Mr Salhab, who works at the capital’s Queen Margaret University, initially created a film named Bra-et Al Rouh (Innocence of Spirit), starring a young Palestinian girl that drew parallels between homelessness and Palestinian refugees. The film enjoyed previous success at the California-based Best Shorts Awards before being screened at the world-renowned festival in the south of France.

Using time-lapse and stop motion techniques, ‘Kinetic II’ is made up of more than 10,000 individual images and takes the viewer on a virtual trip from the Dome in George Street to Portobello Promenade, and from a dusky Granton Harbour to the Winter Wonderland in Princes Street.

Mr Salhab describes ‘Kinetic II’ as part of his ‘on-going research into practical media’ and has called it a Christmas present to Edinburgh’s residents and those around the world who love Scotland’s capital.
