Laldie: To undertake an action with gusto or great enthusiasm.

Often used in forms of encouragement to one’s colleagues, “Gie it laldie!” can loosely be translated as “Give it your best effort”.

“At the Hogmanay party the band were giving it laldie.”

Originally meant to depict a beating or thrashing, the word has taken on a more positive connotation through the years.
