Lost Edinburgh: West Approach Road, 1972
Pictured before the road was built, the former approach to Princes Street Station.
For generations the area had been home to the railway tracks which led to the station at the end of Princes Street.
But with the station no longer in use the trackbed gave way to a new road which brought drivers a speedier route into the heart of the Capital.
The West Approach Road now forms a vital transport artery into Edinburgh, passing through the city’s financial sector and delivering drivers onto Lothian Road.
