Lost Edinburgh: Cowgate

This image supplied by Facebook page Lost Edinburgh shows how the Cowgate looks today compared to how it appeared in 1870.

Thanks to some great Photoshop skills by Colin MacGregor-maker, an impression of what the area was like well over a century is achieved.

The Cowgate hasn’t had the best of times of it recently with many of its historic buildings decimated by fire in 2002.

And as this picture shows, today’s Cowgate doesn’t appear that different to how it was in the 1870s.
