Human skeletons found in garden

Human remains at least two centuries old have been found in a back garden.

Workmen discovered the fragments of bone during renovations at the property in Grove Street, Edinburgh.

The city council’s archaeologist has now begun investigations to try to establish how many people the bones came from.

It is not known how they came to be in the garden but they are thought to pre-date the construction of the house in 1822.

Lothian and Borders Police carried out an initial investigation after they were called to the scene at about 5:30pm on Friday.

However, they passed the incident to Edinburgh City Council once it became clear the bones were centuries old.
