Three in ten can’t afford optician visit

THREE in ten Scots avoid going to the optician because of the cost a major study has found, with many admitting they have never had an eye test.

The poll also found six in ten Scots think they do not need to get their eyes tested if they think their sight is good. And two in ten said they have not had an eye test in at least the last three years.

Experts say people are putting not only their sight but their general health at risk because eye tests can pick up serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Medical writer and GP Rob Hicks “The majority of visual impairments are preventable when caught and treated early.”
