Heart transplant woman calls for more Scots organ donors

A YOUNG woman who underwent a life-saving heart transplant has called on more Scots to join the organ donor register.

Samantha Bell, 29, right, from Cambuslang said signing up to the register was the “most amazing thing anyone can do”.

She spoke as it was revealed that four out of ten people in Scotland have joined the register – the highest proportion in the UK.

Public health minister Michael Matheson said this showed the country was “on the right track”, as he too urged more people to sign up to become organ donors in the event of their death.

The campaign to encourage Scots to become donors was offically launched by the Scottish Government yesterday.
