More than 1,000 staff have been hired to work at this summer’s Commonwealth Games.

In total, 1,400 vacancies will be filled before the start of the sporting spectacle this July, according to Search Consultancy, the recruitment agency for Glasgow 2014.

The posts to be filled will be in areas such as transport, logistics, financial planning, medical, catering, cleaning and waste and contract management, officials said.

Simone Lockhart, Search Consultancy’s managing director for Scotland, said the 1,000th appointment represents a key phase in the recruitment campaign.

She said: “With more than 300 positions still remaining, we continue to welcome applications from those with the passion, drive and enthusiasm who want to help us to deliver a fantastic Games for Glasgow and Scotland.”

The 1,000th recruit was 23-year-old Elayna Currie, from Ayr, who was appointed as an administration co-ordinator.

She described it as a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.

She added: “The excitement is building among staff as we’re getting closer to the start of the Games and I can’t wait for the events to get under way.

“It’s sure to be a fantastic sporting spectacle that will leave so many of Glasgow 2014’s employees with great skills and experiences that will stand them in good stead for he future opportunities.”

The 1,400 staff jobs are in addition to Glasgow 2014’s 30,000 contractor vacancies and 15,000 volunteer positions.
