THE VERBATIM USB 3.0 Store ‘n’ Go is a superfast, compact data storage drive that fits conveniently in your pocket. It’s backward compatible with USB 2, offering data transfer rates parallel to that of a ‘USB 2 Pro’ device, meaning it’s very fast.
However, until now my biggest bug bear was the time it took to transfer files between devices. The Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go USB 3.0 drive renders that issue redundant, as real world tests prove.
Conducting several tests over USB 2 (there was no USB 3.0 available at time of review) by firstly transferring a 32mb file, it was instantaneous, copying four audio files with a combined size of 64mb’s in a blisteringly fast data transfer rate of 60.2mb per second.
I then threw multiple files at it (audio, video, and images) to test the bus speed further. A combined file size of 4.36 GB’s gave an average data transfer rate of 30.6 MBs per second, which is more than ten times that of the USB 2 pen drive I used as a comparison test.
Adding more files, increasing the amount of data - and from different locations on my hard disk, the data rate dropped further, however, still outperforming USB 2 significantly without freezing or grounding to a halt.
In computer terms the Verbatim USB 3.0 is like driving a Ferrari with enough space in the boot to transfer a bus load of data, rendering my fairly new USB 2 the equivalent of a skip with four square wheels.
Verbatim USB 3.0 is the F1 of pen drives with a street price of a Skoda. I can only surmise that connecting it to supported USB 3 device would increase its performance significantly. Be assured, Verbatim create quality products that live up to what they claim to do - in this case, Store ‘n’ go.
Perfect stocking filler for Christmas? We think so.
