Wine: Reisling can deliver fresh youth or complex maturity

Riesling has amazing character that can be zippy and fresh in its youth but can age into concentrated, complex wines that offer great value for money.

Dr L Riesling 2007 – 6.49 - Tesco. Packed with apple fruits and low in alcohol, with a refreshingly crisp taste that cools the palate.

Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese Dr Hermann 2004 – 8.99 (Buy 2 Save 2 – 7.99) – Majestic. Sweet citrus fruit, delicate herbal notes and a cool minerality on the palate. On the nose it is starting to develop some petrol-like character. Complex and delicious.

Tesco Finest* Alsace Riesling 2007 – 5.99 – Tesco. With fresh, clean citrus aromas, the palate shows a dry purity of lime fruit and a subtle mineral edge.

Tesco Finest* Tingleup Riesling – 7.19 – Tesco. Fresh citrus on the nose and lemon and lime on the palate, a slight floral character and a refreshing, cleansing finish.

Villa Maria Private Bin Riesling 2008 – 7.99 down to 6.39 – Majestic. Aromas of lime, apple and passion fruit, this is a fresh, zesty wine from New Zealand's Marlborough.
