Humble haddie voted top in taste tests

THE humble Scottish caught haddock has been the main ingredient of the traditional fish supper for decades. And consumer tests have now proved that, when it comes to taste, the Scottish haddock reigns supreme.

Seafood Scotland revealed yesterday that a series of consumer panels, carried out for the organisation in Scotland and England by two independent consumer research companies, had shown that the Scottish product was the clear winner in comparison to the white fish caught by rival fleets in Nordic nations.

A spokeswoman for Seafood Scotland said: “The research was carried out in February and June and blind tested Scottish product against haddock from Norway, the Faroes and Iceland. In all the tests, which used a number of different cooking methods, Scottish haddock came out on top.

“Full results are awaited, but preliminary findings show Scotland as the clear winner in terms of taste and texture.”
