Brewery case study: I’m starting small but thinking big
ANDREW Barnett the owner of recently opened Edinburgh brewery Barney’s Beer, says he sees the brewery boom as part of a wider trend in favour of local, independently run grocers, cafes and pubs.
His brewery produces a range of more than half a dozen bottled and draft beers which are stocked by several bars in the Scottish capital.
Billed as Edinburgh’s only micro brewery, Barney’s Beer is brewed on the site of the original 1800s Summerhall brewery.
“People like to know who they’re buying from,” Mr Barnett said.
“Breweries are thriving in the same way that small-scale delicatessens are.”
Mr Barnett said he was optimistic about his aims to build and expand his new business.
“I plan to be around for a while, it’s definitely in my long-term plans,” he added.
