Trailer of the week: Spring Breakers
Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine are schoolfriends who stage a robbery to pay for a beach holiday – then get drawn further into a life of crime by a charismatic but clearly unhinged James Franco.
It’s director Harmony Korine’s new film (which was the surprise movie at this month’s Glasgow Film Festival).
Does it look any good?
As with all of Korine’s films, Spring Breakers is already polarising audiences. Our film critic, Alistair Harkness, loved it. The List, meanwhile, thought it was “ludicrously bad”. The trailer is loud, flashy and trashy. The girls, judging by the footage on show here, spend pretty much the entire movie in bikinis. “Why you acting ’spicious?” drawls Franco when he meets them. Well, Mr Franco, possibly because, with your jewel encrusted teeth, ridiculous sunglasses and general air of shiftiness you’re the most obviously signposted bad guy since the Joker, especially when you say things like “I’ve done every illegal activity under the sun.”
When is it out? 5 April.
