James McAvoy films a scene for forthcoming film Filth. Picture: Jane Barlow

SCOTTISH actor James McAvoy was in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket yesterday to shoot a scene for the forthcoming film Filth, adapted from the novel by Irvine Welsh. Onlookers watched as a bearded McAvoy acted out a scene with a young boy at a cash machine.

The scene showed McAvoy taking a balloon from the boy who then retaliated, by kicking him in the leg. Between takes the star chatted with fans and signed autographs.

Amazing to see a Local Author encapsulate the grim but true reality that is the dark side of edinburgh, and not only does he keep true to the edinburgh slang and uniqueness of a leith junkie he writes in such away that people from alll around the world can not only understand but enjoy. If you dont like it dont read it, dont watch it and dont talk about it, the world is full of people with there opinions and there lonley lives... your words wont change much on the scotsmans comments page, try writing a book yerself VICTOR... then slate the man that put leith on the map... and never moved in inch even after the money fame, get it wrapped right around the lot of ye's, mon the welsh!!!!

mmm, filth, one of Welsh's worst, couldn't they just film Porno which everybody wants to see, and get somebody else in to play Renton while McGreggor is sulking?

It really will never cease to amaze me. Why would anyone want to turn the repulsive creature welshs' books into films? Why indeed would anyone want to read anything the wee hobgoblin has written? Truly extraordinary. Most of the cretins devotees are surely unable to read anyway so why bother? I would simply ask everyone to forever more just ignore the imbecile welsh and soon enough the hideous memory will fade away. Welsh - ' i am as at home drinking cocktails with supermodels in a miami beach bar as i am drinking with the regulars at tamsons bar in leith'. Says it all.
