THE Glasgow Film Festival is celebrating the most successful yet in its history - and a 12 per cent hike in ticket sales since last year.

Two sold-out screenings of cult director Joss Whedon’s new version of Much Ado About Nothing ended the festival, which featured a record 368 events, last night.

The GFF, which has revealed ambitious expansions for its 10th anniversary next year, recorded an overall attendance of 39,106.

It is now attracting an audience as large as the long-running Edinburgh International Film Festival, which said it had just over 40,000 admissions in 2012.

Allan Hunter, the festival’s co-director, said: “We are thrilled and humbled that audiences responded in such record-breaking numbers to our most ambitious programme ever.”
