Edinburgh time-lapse videomaker wins festival award

Waiting for Video...

WALIB Salhab, the Edinburgh lecturer behind the incredible ‘Kinetic Edinburgh’ time-lapse video, has won top prize at a French film festival.

Salhab won the Collège au Cinéma award at the Travelling/Rennes Film Festival for his film Bra-et Al Rouh (The Innocence of Spirit). The film stars six-year-old Edinburgh schoolgirl Katherine Abuaglain, and tells the story of Palestinian refugees. The film has been screened all over the world, including at the Cannes Film Festival.

Salhab said: “Winning the Collège au Cinéma Prize at such a prestigious Festival is such an honour. I made the film with no funding and no budget. All I had was a dedicated cast and crew who helped me to realise my dream.”

Salhab, a lecturer on Media Practice at Queen Margaret University in Musselburgh, is currently working on a new film called Avaritia, which deals with the world of banking. It is being shot in the same style as Kinetic Edinburgh, but with live actors alongside the stop-motion animation.
