DVD of the week: A Dangerous Method

What is it? The first of David Cronenberg’s two films this year (the second, Cosmopolis, has just hit cinemas), this adaptation of Chris Hampton’s play The Talking Cure stars Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung and Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud, clashing over the treatment of a wealthy Russian played by Keira Knightley.

What we said: “The grandaddy of squirmy horror and lurid violence doesn’t sound like anyone’s first stop for a period drama about three people who over-analyse everything, but it turns out to be a stately box of weird delights.” Extras: Commentary by Cronenberg, plus interview.
