Theatre: Long Live The Little Knife
Tramway, Glasgow
Thursday - Saturday, 7.30pm, £10
Long Live The Little Knife is a dynamic, absurd and uplifting theatre piece about forgery, castration and blind drunkenness. In this fast-paced, provocative and boisterous caper, site-specific specialist David Leddy locates the audience inside a mess of paint-spattered dustsheets within the pomp and splendour of a former town hall.
Music: Frightened Rabbit in-stores
Today: HMV, Glasgow, 6pm
Tuesday: HMV, Edinburgh, 6pm
To mark the release of their fourth album Pedestrian Verse, Frightened Rabbit are midway through a tour of some of the nation’s record shops. Get down early if you can to see one of Scotland’s best bands.
Music: Limbo
The Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh
Saturday, 8pm, £4-£6
The capital’s music scene has benefited from Limbo’s regularly excellent monthly nights. This time it’s a showcase from newbie DIY label, who bring Edinburgh School For the Deaf and Battery Face to the Voodoo Rooms. Further support comes from The Plastic Animals.
Club: The House Sound of Chicago with Farley Jackmaster Funk
Friday, 11pm-3am, £10
Max La Cheetah’s, Glasgow
La Cheetah has spent the last few months presenting a bluffer’s guide to Detroit techno, hosting Motor City legends Juan Atkins, Eddie ‘Flashin’ Fowlkes and Keith Tucker in one of Glasgow’s best small venues. Farley Jackmaster Funk, a DJ inextricably linked to Chicago’s halcyon days, offers another valuable – not to mention fun – history lesson.

Music: Song By Toad’s Bad Fun
Henry’s Cellar Bar, Edinburgh
Saturday, 7.30pm, £5
Edinburgh’s Song By Toad bangs the drum for the best new music around, whether it’s through the blog, record label, or his regular live nights. This time around Falmouth band The Black Tambourines (not to be confused with Black Tambourine, the 90s US twee pop band) bring their slacker sound to Henry’s, with suitably fuzzy support from two of Glasgow’s most talked-about new bands, Honeyblood and North American War.
Comedy: Wicked Wenches
Tuesday: The Stand, Edinburgh, 8.30pm, £6
Wednesday: The Stand, Glasgow, 8.30pm, £6
