Top five celebrity stories of the week

Love, and that bane of the celebrity existence; exhaustion, are in the air this week, as are light particles
Somewhat surprising couple of the week are Mary-Kate Olsen and Nicolas’ Sarkozy’s brother
Pictures of child star, turned celebrity mogul, turned actual credible designer Mary-Kate Olsen, age 25, and Olivier Sarkozy, 42-year-old half brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, at a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden appear to confirm rumours that the pair have been dating for several months.
Unless he just really likes her hair, which he is pictured stroking. Said famously unkempt blonde hair has undergone a recent transformation, with Olsen appearing at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards this week newly brunette (providing a much more effective method of distinguishing her from twin Ashley than asking, who looks more like they slept in a bush? Answer: always M-K) so perhaps this show of affection was a gesture of fond farewell. Whatever it was, Sarkozy’s ex-wife Charlotte is unimpressed, calling the relationship “grotesque.”
Third time lucky for Drew Barrymore
Marriage fan Drew Barrymore has tied the knot with non-famous boyfriend, art director Will Kopelman, in a traditional Jewish ceremony at her home in Montecito, California. Barrymore, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child, wore a wedding gown by Chanel, which we can only describe as exemplary, and carried a bouquet of pink peonies (ditto), and told People magazine: “The day was perfect. It was as fun and meaningful as we could ever have hoped.”
Barrymore was previously married to bar owner Jeremy Thomas in 1994, for two months, and to soi-disant comedian Tom Green in 2001, for five months.
Miley Cyrus engaged to Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus has confirmed via Twitter (naturally) that she is engaged, at the ripe old age of 19, to boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, star of The Hunger Games. Cyrus wrote: “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam” and later “I feel like all my dreams are coming true”.
Dad Billy Ray Cyrus must be pleased then, as his thoughts on the subject (also on Twitter) were: “All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness, peace of mind, and someday know true love.”
Hemsworth and Cyrus met in 2009 on the set of their (undoubtedly excellent) movie The Last Song, and sealed the deal with a 3.5 carat diamond from Neil Lane.
Karl Lagerfeld’s cat’s life is way better than yours
In an interview with fashion industry paper Women’s Wear Daily, totally normal and in no way unusual Chanel designer Karl “Kaiser” Lagerfeld has revealed details of his cat Choupette’s lifestyle, calling her “a kept woman”. Choupette, a Siamese, has her own iPad (which Lagerfeld has tweeted pictures of her using), eats sitting at the table with papa Karl, and has two maids at her personal service.
His revelation that the maids are required to keep a diary of Choupette’s moods (“everything she did, from what she ate, to how she behaved, if she was tired, and if she wasn’t sleeping”), which since he acquired her in January has totalled 600 pages, has led to the creation of a Twitter account purporting to be the cat’s, with the handle https://twitter.com/#!/ChoupettesDiary. At the time of writing Choupette had 2,455 followers, and in an answer to those who doubt her authenticity worthy of Lagerfeld himself, insisted “I am as real as the light particles I chase.”
Possibly-tired Rihanna cancels ten-week UK trip
Following her Tweet last month of a picture of herself hooked up to an IV in a hospital bed, after being admitted for exhaustion and dehydration (as getting some sleep and drinking some water clearly will not suffice), Rihanna has cancelled her ten-week stay in the UK this summer.
She was due to arrive in London yesterday but cancelled her plans at the last minute, meaning she will miss planned performances at the Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend and the O2 Wireless festival. Her management have not as yet revealed why, but fans (and several tabloids) are concerned that the singer is unwell again.
The singer herself, usually a prolific tweeter, was no less enigmatic, yesterday writing merely: “Keep your eyes on the finish line and not on the turmoil around you #thinkahead.”
