Parky weather may prevent Madonna wardrobe mishaps

From PJ Proby’s regularly splitting trousers to Janet Jackson’s nipple slip, there is a long history of pop stars benefiting from what we now call wardrobe malfunctions.

Madonna popped her breast from her bra in Istanbul recently and waited for the headlines to stack up. For the first time ever, Madonna plays Scotland tonight when she brings her MDNA tour to Murrayfield. One imagines the parky weather may prevent further wardrobe mishaps.

If there are any nipple slips at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, launching this weekend, it’s odds on they are accidental. Highlights include the ever-popular Mardi Gras open-air gigs in the Grassmarket this afternoon and a carnival taking place on Princes Street, Rose Street and Princes Street Gardens tomorrow afternoon. This evening, New Orleans star Dr John and his band, the Lower 911, play the Festival Theatre. Critics have lauded Locked Down, his new album.

If you prefer giggling to gigging, the Funny In Falkirk comedy festival starts this weekend. Homegrown
talent Des Clarke, comedy magician Pete Firman and volatile Canadian Tom Stade are the biggest names on stage over the next couple of days. Clarke and Firman share a similar strand of cheeky DNA. Stade’s humour is abrasive enough to be used as toilet scourer.

The Big Tent environmental festival is back in action at Falkland in Fife. There are numerous debates and talks on green and social issues, backed by a programme of concerts. The Proclaimers, Salsa Celtica and Karine Polwart will all be giving their own unique take on Scottish music over the weekend.

For retro fun without any serious talks to niggle the conscience, head for Glasgow Green today for the Here and Now concert which promises many a musical blast from the past. Acts from the 80s revisiting their pomp include Rick Astley, Belinda Carlisle, Paul Young, Toyah, Curiosity Killed The Cat and Carol Decker of T’Pau.
