Google Nexus 7 tablet wins Tablet of the Year award

THE Google Nexus 7 has been crowned both Gadget Of The Year and Tablet Of The Year at the T3 Gadget Awards 2012.

The tablet, which retails at £159 and is manufactured by ASUS, beat off competition from the PS Vita and the Samsung Galaxy S3 to land the top gadget award.

The awards recognise and honour the gadgets, software and personalities which have intrigued, inspired and wowed the world over the past 12 months.

Google Android operating system was described as the “power” behind the app adding that the online marketplaces was a now a “real alternative to Apple’s trailblazing app store”.

Lord Sugar, the evening’s guest of honour, was given the Outstanding Contribution To Technology Award.

Apple and Samsung were nomninated in nine and 10 categories respectively but were only successful in one category each.

Samsung wone Phone Of The Year, with their Galaxy S3 beating the iPhone 4S.

However, the 4S won Apple’s sole award of the evening for Work Gadget Of The Year.

T3 Editor Luke Peters said: “The awards were another astounding success. This year saw more closely contested categories than ever, with our judges deliberating in great depth to decide the eventual winners.

“The public vote also played a crucial role.

“The tech industry has never been more exciting and the multitude of winning brands demonstrate how much quality buying choice there is now.”
