Going Out
Visual art
The National Galleries of Scotland start their summer season this weekend with Expanding Horizons, an intriguing exhibition of landscapes by the Italian artist Giovanni Battista Lusieri, who was active in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His star has waned considerably since his death in 1821, but this show, at the Scottish National Gallery until 28 October, promises a thorough reassessment of his legacy. www.nationalgalleries.org
Music
Organising an album launch gig on the same weekend as T in the Park would normally be a foolhardy move, but Meursault have built up such a devoted following over the past three years that it should all work out well. The band – one of Scotland’s finest – play Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall on Saturday.
Theatre
Conventional wisdom has it that July is a bad time to put on theatre – an idea the Tron in Glasgow has been proving wrong with a series of holiday hits. The venue is hoping to continue this with the first ever Scottish production of Marie Jones’ Olivier award-winning community drama Stones In His Pockets. In a novel, and cost-saving, twist, all the parts are played by just two actors, Robbie Jack and Keith Fleming. wwww.tron.co.uk
