Game review: Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

THE second Transformers game from High Moon Studios follows the escalating war between the Autobots and Decepticons as it tears apart their home city of Cybertron. With their world on the brink of ruin, the Autobots are forced to fight one last time.

What follows is an adrenaline fuelled string of gun battles across Cybertron, employing a huge cast of classic Transformers – from fan favourites Optimus Prime and Megatron, to snivelling traitor Starscream. Most of the classic voice actors are back, along with their over-the-top, corny dialogue, which will please fans of the original cartoon.

Gameplay follows a third-person shooter format, as you stomp across each stage letting rip with a barrage of heavy weapons. You can upgrade firearms using collected shards from fallen enemies and crates.

You can also transform into vehicles at will, which gives you a defensive edge in battle, or lets you travel across large areas at breakneck speed. Overall, the campaign is a blast, letting you play as both the Autobots and Decepticons as they tear their world apart.

Aside from single-player, there are multiplayer modes, such as the cooperative horde mode Escalation, which pits you against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. There are also competitive multiplayer modes, robot customisation options and levels to be completed.

With a long campaign and sprawling multiplayer modes, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a generous game which captures the spirit of the classic cartoons.
