Game Review: Borderlands 2

2K Games, PC/PS3/Xbox 360, £24.99 to £39.99 (depending on format)

It’s nice to see a first-person shooter that isn’t another Call Of Duty wannabe. This has its own sassy personality, its cell-shaded graphics creating a wonderful imaginary world that’s half western/half Star Wars. The plot isn’t exactly Shakespeare but it’s nicely implemented and refines nearly everything that made the first instalment so much fun for an even smoother, richer experience. The character classes offer ninja assassins, soldiers, techno-witches and “Gunzerkers”, with plenty of opportunities to tweak your stats and explore the multiple skill trees, while the wealth of weapons is astounding. It’s a surprisingly deep game but keeps the action fast, frantic and often fatal.
