Smartening up for summer
NO more room for scruffs in the sun as 'Best Dressed Man' George Lamb says looking dapper is definitely on-trend
SCRUFFY guys, take note. The days of throwing on an old T-shirt and sweatpants are over. Stylish presenter George Lamb recently picked up the Best Dressed Man of the Year accolade at The Clothes Show Style Awards in London. Rarely seen minus his smart suit and tie combo or trademark dickie bow, George is proof that looking dapper is well and truly on-trend. "My accountant will tell you just how passionate I am about fashion," admits George, who regularly frequents his tailor on Bond Street.
If your man's wardrobe is lacking in the creative department we have a rundown of this summer's trends to transform his look by Burton's Jonathan Lovett.
So with Father's Day approaching it's time for men to shine in the style spotlight.
POOLSIDE
The Riviera trend – and an appreciation of 1950s cool that's part French, part preppy – has inspired fashion designers yet again, says Jonathan.
Create the look by wearing a simple two-colour stripe tee under a cotton cardigan, slim turned-up vintage wash jeans, accessorised with the all-important deck shoes and Wayfarer sunglasses.
GET THE LOOK: Topman, Burton or Cherokee at Tesco.
TRAVELLER
Kicking back is always important during the summer months and Jonathan says the traveller trend is ideal fora more bohemian vibe.
Jonathan says: "Colours appear sun-bleached and fabrics are cool yet interesting. Simple layering makes this look work – go for tees or vests under a tunic or check shirt and wear with denim shorts or bleached faded jeans and a plaited leather belt."
GET THE LOOK: Next, French Connection or River Island.
IBIZA
Colour is back this summer, says Jonathan, especially the hot shades of orange, yellow, and red.
"Taking influence from the 80s trend, holidays in the Med have inspired this beach clothing look. Go for shorts in bold prints, solid brights, cropped denims and retro, graphic, surf-print tees.
"This season's swimwear prints are all about Hawaiian designs like palm trees, hibiscus and tropical rainforests. Accessorise this look with a trilby or flat cap, dog tags and funky beach towel for that holiday with the lads."
GET THE LOOK: ASOS, Republic or Matalan.
