My life in clothes: Rachel McTavish
What's the last piece of clothing you bought?
I bought a few bright little dresses from Wallis. I love wearing a frock – they don't involve any thought in the morning and make you feel glam.
Best ever bargain?
I am a superb bargain hunter. Just a few weeks ago I bought a great silk tunic from John Lewis, which was reduced from 139 to 18. I added a broad band of silk around the bottom, a wide belt and "ta-da", a brilliant dress that's unique to boot.
Who has great style?
This is a tricky one, but I'd go for Sharon Stone (especially around the Basic Instinct era), Jennifer Aniston and Kate Winslet. I think women tend to get more stylish as they get older, once they've worked out what suits them and have the confidence not to follow trends.
Name your favourite high street shop.
I love Zara's clothes, but sometimes end up feeling like the largest woman on the planet when I shop there.
What are you addicted to buying?
Dresses, see above.
Any fashion disasters you'd care to tell us about?
My sister thinks that the photos of me from the Eighties are hilarious, but I don't think many of us handled the fashion of that decade well.
What's your favourite item in your wardrobe?
Anything that makes my legs look long, my stomach flat and is comfy and stylish. I think accessories are far more important than the clothes themselves.
