Fashion: Show jumpers for the cold season

Pulling on the woollens is second nature this time of year. But it’s time to give the humble jumper a bit more attention as knitwear takes centre stage and becomes a trend all on its own.

From easy to wear cardigans to crochet tops, and everything else in between, there is a knit to suit everyone.

With such a wide range of stock available on the high street you can banish the thoughts of those itchy Arans from your childhood and embrace the latest style sensation.

Knitwear is one of the easiest and most versatile items you can own, and because of that people can get stuck in a bit of a style rut with it.

Embrace different textures and fabrics when wearing knitwear.

You can even layer knit-on-knit for some sophisticated statement dressing.

Revisit the early 90s by teaming velvet and crochet together.

Pop a blazer on top and add a bum bag for a vintage revival that is bang on trend. Throw lightweight floral fabrics, like this loose jacket, over a fine knit dress and finish the look off with some fun accessories such as a cable knit turban.

Don’t be frightened of teaming two knits together.

An easy way to achieve this is by placing a light wool jacket over a cable knit cardigan.

Make sure you emphasis your waist by belting it to give your outfit shape.

Also expose the bottom of your knit from under your jackets so that the layers are obvious and exaggerated.

Going for a girlier look is easy.

Pick some preppy pastels by pulling on a tight sweater over cigarette pants.

Add a satchel style backpack to the look and you’ll be ticking another style box this seasons as they are the must have bag of the summer.

Nautical stripes are already making their annual appearance on the high street.

Use knitwear to create a boating vibe by pairing tailored city shorts with a striped top or cardigan.

Adding a touch of gold with your accessories dresses up the casual feel of the outfit making it edgier.

For a touch of colour go for vivid bright shades in citrus.

Through a little ying and yang into your outfit by combining wool with sheer fabrics.

When putting knit over neon colours opt for neutral beige tones to balance the outfit out.

You’ll never look at your woollies the same way again.
