Packing for a holiday can quickly escalate into a migraine state of mind if you don’t have a clear head.

There is a lot of ground to cover on your jollies. Days lounging by the pool proceed to party nights at the bar. Then there’s culture hot spots, beaches, boat trips and before you know it you’re home feeling like you need another holiday to recover.

We all fall short of perfecting our packing technique and as baggage limits get tighter it leaves no room for error.

It’s time to get cut-throat over clobber and savvy with style choice by picking pieces that will lend themselves to being reinvented into different outfits.

Beach gear as evening wear

Beach cover-ups are getting more chic by the season, with the majority effortlessly masquerading as evening wear. Fling one into a case and I guarantee it’ll come out the other side crease free. Get the largest size you can. The reason I stress this is because maximum fabric helps create definition. During the day let it hang loose for a boho vibe. In the evening pull the material forward and belt the middle to create a billowing maxi dress.

One maxi, three ways

Invest in a maxi dress because it has the capacity to translate into three different outfits. Simply worn during the day with flip flops, this look is easily switched to evening by adding high heels and accessories.

A simple white T-shirt can be slung over the top to create the look of a separate skirt and top. Or inject a slight festival feel by adding loose knits teamed with straw hats. They are also really comfortable to fly in – it is basically a glam night gown!

Be strong

There is no point filling your case with party frocks. Stay strong and select one to go away with you and don’t be scared to wear a prettier piece to the beach that you could use in the evening too.

Sometimes we get so caught up in “keeping an outfit good” that it defeats the purpose of owning it. Slinging silky evening wear over bikinis glams up your daytime look and justifies packing a piece if it can be worn more than once. If it gets dirty, hand wash it.

Shorts

A classic pair of white shorts is a must. Pop on with a white T-shirt for casual but crisp daytime dressing. Or place underneath a sheer dress in the evening for more coverage. A girl’s best friend.
