Artful pupils scoop prize

PUPILS from St Thomas of Aquins High School have won the John Byrne Award 2011.

Byrne, an artist, playwright and writer, presented the winners with a £7000 cheque at an awards ceremony for their triptych of portraits inspired by early Renaissance painters.

The John Byrne Award, open to sixth year students in Edinburgh, asked entrants for works on the subject of values.

Eleven teams, including two solo entrants, from eight schools took part.
