Theatre review: Dreaming Of Leaves

Have your say

The grotesquely protracted – and supposedly tragic – climax (scored to a live piano accompaniment of Moon River) of this post-apocalyptic farrago probably deserves some sort of award as one of the most magnificently misjudged moments of contemporary theatre.

Star rating: *

Venue: theSpace on the Mile (Venue 39)

Set after the “seas bled” and most of the population has fled “to the great Tesco in the sky” a group of survivors gather together in a hilltop church to subsist on raw fish while reminiscing about the past via unspeakable dialogue and attempts at physical theatre (‘dance’ would be really pushing it). It’s all grim – in every possible respect.

Until 26 August. Tomorrow 6:10pm.
