MUSIC: HOZIER

After surging to worldwide fame on the back of single Take Me To Church and his self-titled debut album, Hozier continues to sell out shows across Europe on his current tour. The Wicklow-born singer-songwriter’s number one hit, written and recorded in his parents’ attic, was a criticism of the Catholic Church in Ireland and their stance on homosexuality, which has become an LGBT anthem. Hozier’s Usher Hall show is a sell-out event, a testament to his rising popularity in spite of newcomer status and the weighty subjects he deals in.

FILM: BLADERUNNER: THE FINAL CUT

Harrison Ford returns to outer space at the Belmont Filmhouse – and we’re not talking about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Marking the 25th anniversary of its original theatrical release, Ridley Scott returned to cult favourite Blade Runner in 2007 and restored the film from its original negative. Despite being pre-dated by The Final Cut a number of years before, this definitive version is the only in which Ridley Scott had full creative control and is considered to be the truest reflection of what Scott wanted the film to be. Blade Runner is one of the most influential sci-fi films of all time – don’t miss it.

EVENT: PUBLIC ASTRONOMY EVENINGS

On a clear evening, the skies of Scotland are often the envy of astronomers UK-wide due to their unrivalled views of the Northern Lights. Throughout the winter months, stargazers will be welcomed along to Edinburgh’s Royal Observatory, where specialists will be on hand to guide you through the planets and constellations visible from their Victorian-era building located on Blackford Hill. As the weather can’t always be counted on, the observatory will be offering other activities on those less than pleasant evenings, revolving around their active science centre and the building’s stunning period architecture.
