New Scottish music: Jamie & Shoony

Have your say

Jamie & Shoony first gained attention four years ago when they played a guerilla gig in an Edinburgh supermarket and posted the performance on YouTube.

Since then they have added a rhythm section and carved out a reputation for their rousing live shows which appeal to a broad audience and invariably involve crowd surfing. Although they have played everywhere from strip clubs to Linlithgow Palace, as well as dozens of festivals, the band only recently got around to releasing a single – but Who Are You brilliantly captures the energy of their live sets.

Jamie & Shoony are now lining up their next release, Settle Down, and Glasgow shoppers should look out for exotically disguised individuals on Saturday, when the band plan to film their new video. Before then, they are due to headline Hempfest on Glasgow Green (Wednesday) and over the coming weeks have dates in Perth, Kilmarnock, Lockerbie, Brodick and Dunfirmline, culminating in a support slot for Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash at Edinburgh’s Liquid Room (www.jamieandshoony.com). Expect the audience to be well warmed up by the time the hip hop masters take to the stage – Jamie & Shoony are a force to be reckoned with.

Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon organise the Wide Days festival, which takes place from 22-23 April at various venues throughout Edinburgh, www.widedays.com. For more information on the Lindisfarne Festival visit www.lindisfarnefestival.com
