SCOTTISH Fiction blogger Neil Wilson profiles Edinburgh band Book Group, one of the city’s finest unsigned bands, and invites them for a series of exclusive acoustic sessions

One of Edinburgh’s finest unsigned bands Book Group announced last week the details of their brand new single. Called Late Show, it takes a nostaligc trip back to those summer nights spent with a bag of sweets in hand at a late night cinema showing.

Self-described lovers of thunderous drums, crunchy guitars, and a wee bit of melodic shouting, the band craft good, honest pop music with an alternative twist. Having built up a solid fan base with their energetic and engaging live shows – lead singer Graeme Anderson ends every show roaming round the crowd with his trusty megaphone in hand – the announcement of new material is a welcome one.

Late Show is the first single taken from the band’s forthcoming album, The Great Indoors, due out in early 2016. Speaking to Graeme and Kevin Fisher from the band, they explained that the album cements the Book Group sound, but has allowed them the room for some experimentation. Fans will be able to hear the fruits of their labours during their upcoming UK wide tour, which kicks off in Newcastle on 12th November, and sees them take in dates in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and launching their single officially in Aberdeen on December 4.

For those looking for a sneak peek of the new single, I played host to Graeme and Kevin on my radio show, Scottish Fiction, and the duo played acoustic versions of three tracks. Below are videos for the tracks Kickstart, Here Is Too Near and Late Show, which were recorded at Pulse 98.4 Community Radio. You can hear the full show, including the interview, here.
