A GROUP of amateur cyclists - including Grant Hutchison, the drummer in chart-topping Scottish rock band Frightened Rabbit - are set to undertake a gruelling 1100-mile bike ride to raise money for research into a rare kidney disease.
The Great Big Cycle will see ten cyclists leave Edinburgh in May for a twelve-day ride taking in the capitals of Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The ride is in aid of the charity Cystinosis Foundation UK, which supports research into the rare and as-yet incurable kidney condition.
Hutchison’s brother Neil is a trustee of the charity and has been involved with its work since his daughter Morven was born with the condition in 2010.
Grant Hutchison said of his niece’s condition: “As it is such a rare disease, drug companies have no financial interest in funding research to find a cure, so all money is raised privately through the carers and sufferers of Cystinosis.”
Frightened Rabbit’s most recent album Pedestrian Verse reached the number 1 spot in the Scottish album charts, making the top ten in the overall UK chart.
