SCOTTISH singer-songwriter Emeli Sande has been handed an honorary degree by Glasgow University for her “outstanding contribution to the music industry.”
The Aberdeenshire vocalist graduated from the university with an intercalated degree in neuroscience in 2009.
Sande, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the past year, performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies at last year’s Olympic Games in London.
Our Version Of Events, her debut album, spent 63 weeks at the summit of the UK album charts, breaking a record held by The Beatles.
Dr Who writer Steven Moffat also received the Doctor of Letters from the university as part of the institution’s Commemoration Day celebrations.
